Winter is traditionally our industry’s slow season, but your Board and Association have had a busy and productive past few months! We hope you will take a few minutes to catch up on the latest news and activities.
The 2023 IANJ Annual Meeting & Education event was held on December 6th in Atlantic City and saw strong attendance for the daytime classes and a great turnout for the evening’s Membership Meeting & Reception. Highlights included a special tribute to Phil DeMarco and the presentation of the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award to John Raffani. We also revealed the 2024 Board of Directors Trustees.
January means Winter Tech, and we were excited to welcome over 150 contractors to this year’s conference. We held three days of virtual classes and one day of in-person classes at Central Turf & Irrigation Supply’s newest location in Hillsborough.
January brought some other big news. I am excited to share that Governor Phil Murphy has signed into law a groundbreaking piece of legislation that originated in our industry over 18 years ago. The new law, once enacted, will require the installation of operational automatic rain sensor or smart sprinkler equipment as condition of sale of real estate properties, and on certain commercial, retail, and industrial properties and common interest communities within specified timeframes. The passing of this legislation is a win for IANJ and the irrigation industry.
As I come to the end of my Presidency, I thank you for trusting me with such an important role. I did my best to serve the membership and focus on initiatives that will benefit all of us and improve the industry as a whole. It has been an honor to serve in the capacity of President, and I look forward to remaining as Past President to help keep the positive momentum going.
